My own personal website, built from scratch to suit my needs and style. Here I am able to show off all that I can offer, without limitations. Besides the benefits of a full-fledged personal website, making this taught me a huge deal about web development, and pushed my capabilities far beyond what they were before.
The design ideology for Aeon3D.dev is that of bespoke design that is nevertheless intuitive. It treats its audience as productive human beings, and allows them to view what they want, when they want it, instead of being forced through a one dimensional path of glory - and vanity. Thus, features like scroll-driven animation (scrolljacking) or videos that take up a majority of the field of view were intentionally omitted.
For the portfolio system, I wanted a simple and intuitive system that required minimal-to-no prep when adding a new project.
Here is how the system works:
- Each project and its files are contained in a folder such as 2026-example-project, which also determines its URL.
- A preparation script reads these folders and generates a shared catalog for the website. Metadata is parsed with js-yaml, images are resized and converted to .webp, and ffmpeg handles video conversion where needed. Prepared assets are reused across pages, while original files remain untouched.
- Clicking a project thumbnail opens its project page. React manages category selection and gallery interactions, while session storage preserves browsing state.
